introduction to yoga course:
Ideal for the complete beginner - a four week course which runs every month. Registration available on-line.
ashtanga:
The method of yoga taught by Sri K Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. This form of inter-linking yoga postures accompanied by deep breathing creates a purifying internal heat, realigning the body and calming the mind.
anusara: Anusara Yoga is a unique approach to Hatha Yoga that blends the science of biomechanics with the joyful and creative expression of the heart. The word "anusara" (a-nu-sar-a) means flowing with grace, being in the flow, or, following your heart. Founded by John Friend, Anusara Yoga integrates the celebration of the heart, Universal Principles of Alignment, and balanced energetic action in the performance of asana.
forrest: The pillars of Forrest Yoga® are breath, strength, integrity, and Spirit. The mission of this dynamic and mindful yoga practice is to create in each of us a sense of freedom, a connection to our spirit, and the courage to walk as our spirit dictates.
gentle yoga: Gentle yoga is suited for those desiring or in need of a slower more gentle approach to the yoga practice. It is appropriate for all levels of capability and experience.
restorative: Restorative Yoga is a form of active relaxation. Although TV watching, reading a book, or even sleeping serve to relax us, in Restorative Yoga we become active participants in the process of relaxation. Through gentle flowing movements connected to breath, we foster our own connection to the flow of life. Through supported postures, we find the movement within the stillness. Props are used to support the body, essentially bringing the floor to you, so that poses become accessible and releasing.
yin: “Yin” refers to still, quiet poses as opposed to active, high octane poses. Yin Yoga uses seated & reclining poses with long passive holds to allow gravity to do the work. The sensations you feel will be deep in the connective tissues and the joints, rather than the muscles.
teen: The teenage years are a wonderful time to become involved in yoga. For teens that are physically active or involved in organized sports, the strength and flexibility that yoga provides can enhance performance and enjoyment as well as decrease the propensity for injury. For those not so athletically inclined, yoga can offer a positive avenue for self discovery in mind, body, and spirit. For beginning and experienced students ages 12-16.
prenatal: This class is designed for expectant moms in all stages of their pregnancy. Experience relaxing yet challenging poses suitable for students of all levels. Students will learn key poses intended to help alleviate common aches and pains associated with pregnancy like back pain, leg cramps, and sciatica. Simple breathing techniques that are beneficial throughout the entire pregnancy are also taught in this helpful class.
